Computerization of passenger reservation system started by the Railways In the
mid 80’s is recognized as the first successful, big ticket computer application in
India. It became immensely popular as it provides big relief and convenience to
millions. A few years later, the Telephone kiosks across the country had
ushered in a communications revolution. A decade or so later, the information
technology infusion in banking brought in yet another revolution in the form of
ATM network, liberating the customers from the barriers of time and space in
banking.
